LAKELAND TERRIER CLUB 75TH ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND 14TH/15TH JULY 2007 Words by Kirsty Peake photographs by John Kenyon
Well it is all over. The weekend of 14th and 15th July that we have spent the last 2 years planning for. Alan Johnston judged the Championship Show and his DCC went to Ch. Catch Me If You Can, bred by Judy Averis and owned by John Averis and Pamela Cross-Stern. The RCC went to Wendy Johnston's (no relation!) Ch. Louieville Red Prince. The BCC went to Saredon Apricot Dream, her third and making her up to Champion (subject to KC approval) bred by Judy Averis and owned by ‘Leadbeater & Kerrigan & Averis’. The RCC went to Rafingham Pure Magic, bred by John Mason and owned by him and Nick and Sonia Connell.
Friday saw a very wet day and doing the walk for risk assessment was a damp experience! Friday evening saw a meet the committee social time in the marquee.
Friday night saw the campers struggling in storm conditions,
losing an awning and having to brave the weather to stabilise their tents.
Saturday morning saw the hardy Lakeland folk and their dogs set off for the walk, very enjoyable.
This was followed by a workshop on a Really Reliable Recall (perhaps the wrong way around!).
The afternoon saw Terrier Racing with the help of the Lunesdale Hunt and Fun Games including an eleven legged race, noughts and crosses, egg and spoon. The day finished with a Kennel Club Good Dog Citizen Scheme Bronze award.
Passes were achieved by Liz Anderson with Rusty (Lakeland) Margaret Whitehead with Billie (Kerry), Rachel Averis and Stacey (Lakeland), Vicky Caswell with Maddie (Lakeland) Sheila Bainbridge with Lenny (Dachshund).
Congratulations to all. Saturday night saw us all enjoying ourselves at a Supper Dance.
There was a Silent Auction and a Guess Who? with pictures of the committee under 10years old.
Only one person got it all right - well done John Maloney.
Sunday dawned bright for the Family Dog Show, judged by Angela Johnston. I saw a very worried looking Rottweiler surrounded by Lakies! The Lunesdale Foxhounds came with two and half couple of hounds and gave a presentation of their area and how the Lakeland was bred to run with the hounds. Thanks to Eddie Braithwaite, Chairman of the Hunt for agreeing to do this. The Championship Show was in the afternoon, the rain held off until towards the end of judging and did nothing to dampen the spirits of the weekend.

These were taken by Pete Leadbeater and are his copyright. If you would like an A4 print of a picture then these will be at a cost of £
12 each. We can produce them up to A3 in size but this would be in the region of £
30. Part of this cost is being donated to Lakeland Terrier Rescue. We hope you enjoy this remarkable pictorial record of what was a great weekend. Please use the ‘contact us’ facility on this website if you wish to order pictures.
STOP PRESS: Peter Leadbeater has now produced a DVD of photographs of the weekend, these will soon be available for sale. Please use 'contact us' to order a DVD. The committee sat and watched the DVD and had nothing but praise for the production. The feeling was that it is better than our 2000 videos. With many grateful thanks to Pete for offering to do this for us and all his hard work in producing it.
